Our unrivalled charitable history

Sportech’s continued support for communities across the UK is virtually unparalleled; since the mid 1970s, The Football Pools has contributed over £1.1 billion at today’s value to football, sport, the arts and charitable causes.

The Group was, for many years, the sole funder of the Foundation for Sport and the Arts (www.thefsa.net). The Foundation’s goal is to increase active participation in sport and the arts, especially amongst young people and those with more ability than resources. Many communities, organisations and individuals in the UK have benefited from our funding.

Supporting the foundations of football

The Football Pools has been one of the biggest charitable contributors to British football over the years with almost £530 million donated to British football by the pools companies. This provided an essential lifeline when the game’s wealth was a fraction of what it enjoys today.

These funds enabled clubs to rebuild, modernise and make their grounds safer as well as helping the game to tackle its social problems. This legacy can be seen in the scores of new and rebuilt stadiums in all parts of the UK – from Huddersfield, Sunderland, Reading and Bolton to Chester, Derby, Inverness, Livingston and Scotland’s Hampden Park – none of which would have been built in the 1980s and 1990s without Football Pools assistance.

Today Sportech generates nearly £1 million per annum for charitable causes.
